Hopefully not dead, but how much damage does salt water do to Altec interiors?

It'll depend on how well the cadmium plating held up. Those are early, almost certainly have metal phase plugs and i don't think the phase plugs themselves are plated. It's really hard to know without opening them up.

Unless the seller is willing to rip them apart to expose all the gaps, there's gonna be a large degree of gamble with those.

Since the parts bill alone to fix them is already known at 400+, plus shipping, i'd probably find a pair that are a bit more of a "sure thing" to gamble on.

Lets see...200 plus to buy, 400 parts alone to repair, 50 to ship to GPA, 50 to ship back. You will have likely at least 800 in what might turn out to be a compromised set. Vs 1200 in picking up a clean working set. I don't gamble on short odds.

Also, note the crossovers are gone and the $1200 set would likely have them...

I'd look for a better deal.

My guess is they will be toast!
There is rusty stuff leaking out from under the HF cover.
The seller is being totally up front, and the pics are good. Unlike some cars that will appear around the country from the flood areas.........
Already bid past the worth of the parts in my mind. Unless a guy needs some really cool refrigerator magnets!
Now that's an idea!

Or, you could fire them up as is, although the sound might be a bit muddy......like a veil over the woodwinds.......

Thanks for the replies, Not something I was considering, given as RonSSS pointed out, the rust trail. Besides I might have to move a pair of Es to fit the Gs in.....
Shame though that a nice pair of Altecs have died.

Not a chance I would pay that for those things.
That left one has seen some seriously better days...the cone pretty much looks smashed up. What a shame.
